Yep George is right. Fuse box, then through the dimmer, then to the round connector on the dash circuit board (very top pin). That is your 12 volts for the lamps. The ammeter or bypassing it would have nothing to do with the dash lamps. Look at pages 8-129 and 8-128 in the service manual. ps...

I not very good at explaining things but, I'll try. You really have to pull that dimmer switch to test it. Granted you could just unplug the connectors to it and test it in place but, a real pain. Hey it probably has to be cleaned anyway. Dome switch jiggling tells me that. O.K. get a cheap...

Oh O.K. God you would have to think black. Never seen body plugs like that in color but, you seem to have a couple on the Charger. Maybe installed before the door was sprayed but, that would be pretty easy to tell.

I have pondered this myself. I am pretty much convinced the original plugs on my RR were white. Being white, they would get brittle and crack in the sun so replacing them from a hardware store or even a dealer, you would get black. The color could have varied also from where the car was built...

Herb's product is good. So is SEM but, if you want it to be exact you need to find a PPG shop that mixes paint and bring them a sample. Their vinyl paint is usually pre-thinned and it is a lacquer. Then clean very well and use bulldog adhesion promoter. I think the fender tag is the paint code...
