1969 RR windshield and rear glass

I am in the process of restoring the dash and the rear window clips. I have the front windshield out and have notice two small stone chips and a light scratch from the wiper. Also the rear glass has a few scratches on it. Should I just put in new glass or reinstall the original glass back in? Are there concerns about factory glass numbers I should be aware of? I little insight would be helpful.

Depends how serious you are about authenticity. There are date codes on the glass. If you want to be as numbers correct as possible, put original glass back in. If just having fun driving the doesn’t matter, do whatever you want.
 
Personal call on this one. I used all my original glass but the windshield which was too far gone. ECS has date coded windshields but only tinted the last I checked.
 
Same here front windshield was turning yellow between the two glasses. Have the original rear windshield. Some scratches but not bad. Have been looking a some product's that you can clean the glass with and get rid of the scratches. They sell a kit with different items for cleaning the glass. Think it would be good to put it back in. Has the mopar brand on it. Cleaning it is less than a new one. My thought need money for other thing's. Good luck :beep:
 
My side glass windows in the car have chips in them. I am going to leave them in the car and use them. I have to buy a new front windshield. I can get it for $140 from the local parts store .
 
my car had a new windshield in it when I bought it. Less than a week after I got it a passing truck threw a rock and put a small chip in it. Unless the ones in yours are bad.....I'd reuse'm.
 
where did you find the clips for the back glass? the ones I ordered do not have the little notch to catch the lip on the molding. All the sites I have looked at are like the ones I have. They won't work. They won't hold, they just fall out. Also, are they 3/4" x 3/4"? Thanks for the help! The front clips came in with a notch on them.
 
Most of the replacement clips are way too heavy gauge of steel. Not sure where to send you for good ones.

Their is a way to grind those areas. If they are not to bad. My rear windshield has scratches and bought a grinding compound to clean this glass. Their are video's on how to do the process. Some glass company's can do this for you. Russ.
 
Year one has the correct ones as well best to check the gauge of material the clips are made of the thick ones you will never get the trim on they don’t move enough
 
Maybe they are just like the original clips that came on the car they are real Stiff too if you snap the chrome on it is pretty much there like it should be thank you

More info if you could on this. The windshield on my Jeep has a gazillion microscopic chips. (not sure if this is an actual number, but there's a lot) From just eyeballing it you can't see any of them, but when the sun hits it straight on you can't see shit out of the windshield, even with the visor down. Poor design as the windshield itself sits pretty much at a 90 degree angle from the hood. So it takes a direct hit from anything flying at it. Never cracked it though. I've asked if it could be somehow buffed to remove, and I've been told nope.
