moparchris, sound adviseThe 3.8 is a great motor. It has fragile head gaskets. If you never over heat one it will live forever or if you change the head gaskets with the updated versions from Fel Pro then they are quite reliable. As with any aluminum headed engine head gaskets are fragile. The 3.8 gets a bum rap since the cooling systems can become troublesome with neglect and a teenager driving, Ithink Ray knows what I mean. So my vote is to get a used motor put a good set of head gaskets on it before installing and dont forget the NEW head bolts and then install it and enjoy. It would be way less work than a v8 swap and less trouble when emissions times comes around (if that applys here). For a hundred bucks and about a grand more to fix you will be way ahead (no pun intended) and you will have peice of mind knowing that its fixed right and no worries about breakage.

I have to agree replacing the 3.8 is the way to go, looking here in Atl briefly you can get a 5.0 cheaper than the 3.8. That being said and reading your post, I am just looking to kick around in the car and taking a couple fall trips to Mts. So I will see if I can find a descent 3.8 for sale and go that route
But there rare as hens teeth here for some reason
Again I haven't looked every where yet
Thanks everyone for your help
Tom
Does it have rod knock or something? Or bad head gasket.
