68 Roadrunner restoration

Quickbird, I just threw it together, but can get you dimentions, ect. I made it long enough to mount radiator if I wanted to at a later date. I also made it where I could add/change uprights to fit whatever I might work on in the future. I have a lot of scrap lying around, and didn't want to spend $1500 on anything I couldn't build.
 
Busy weekend with the Roadrunner project. Even got to bust off the 383HP!

My mechanic Jim setting the timing on the 383. I put the Holley 750 on it and had several leaks to deal with. Ended up disconnecting the secondary feed just to get the engine running. Will deal with that later.

that is always a great moment when the engine fires. I really need to make one of those engine stands!!!!
 
Got the new tires in yesterday, mounted and placed on the car, then today got a little help to get the engine mated with the tranny and slid into the car. Gonna be a busy day tomorrow. Have a 1 inch spacer on the 750 Holley, and looks to be real close to the hood. Anyone else running a spacer with the original air cleaner? Will it work?

I've used clay wrapped in saran wrap before. We've had a few cars that we were worried about hood clearance. Instead of dimpling the hood when closing it for the first time I'd pull the spacer, put the carb/air cleaner assembly back on with the saran wrapped clay on the lid. Then I'd measure the clay to see if it didn't compress below the clearance you need. I used to run an Offy 360 intake on my '70 383 (which was more than an inch taller than my stock manifold) with no clearance issues but that hood is shaped quite a bit different.
 
Thanks John, another issue I have is that the tranny mount is not the right one. It looked like the correct one, but is not wide enough to match the holes in the crossmember (I'm assuming it is for an A body???). I might use it temporarily and just drill a couple of holes in the crossmember until I can find the right one.

Finally got the '68 out in the sun for some photos to see what it looks like in the sun. No I have not color sanded and buffed the paint yet. Doesn't look to bad for no paint booth!021.jpg
