Finally Valiant time

Got them tacked in this morning and welded up during the day. You guys that have done this, did you just seam seal the new metal in the trunk or go so far as to bondo and sand to hide it???

I just rattle canned black over my gas welds.... Of course that was ummmmmm.... 1979......

Bob, on mine I did Bondo in the trunk area where you can see it when you open the trunk lid, but where it goes into the interior of the car I just used seam sealer,
 
I fully welded, ground down the welds, seam sealed and under coated. Still nothing done in the trunk I ran out of time but now I can figure my diff width to wheels and paint the bottom. I'm getting close to jamming in some paint so I can install the k-frame
 
Got the diff narrowed waiting on the axels but I thought I'd mock it up and make sure it fits. When I swing the springs up to the frame all is good :thumbsup:

did you narrow the rear??......slick set-up instead of shackles.....did that come in the kit??.....never have seen that before.....we need a close up of where you cut the frame to see your bubble gum welds.....did you down pass your welds in the wheel houses??......nice job bobbie......did you figure out what back space on your wheels......10 inch wide wheels??.....what size tires are you squeezing in there??......shut your face and answer the questions:groucho:
 
I want to know if you hit your welds with a hammer to check them like George does.....

The sliders came as a is, Mancini carries them. Since I wanted to keep the stock ride height these will do the trick right on the frame rail, they are commonly used in stock cars to help remove shackle sway. I did weld 100% downhill seemed to work best for a non pro, georgie the new Lincoln welder is the bomb, love it and yes John Its hammer tested LOL. I talked to Chris about the dimensions and narrowed the housing to work with either an 8 or 10 wide wheel without spacers using todays backspacing. Moser is doing the axels right now.
 
Very nice project you have there and its coming along beautifully . I hope you don't mined me side tracking your thread a little with this picture of my mother back in the day , standing next to our car which I believe is a Valiant but that's all I remember . Any idea what year it is ? just curious

Yeah that's a Valiant. I'd say '60-'62. The Dode Lancer has the same body with a different grill. dad bought one for $35 when I was in Jr High for a work car.
